After being up all night with stomach pain, Holly decided to call the doctor Wednesday morning after finishing her last final of the year. All she can really remember was the doctor saying things like "deliver in the next 24-48 hours" and " I'm 99% sure you have pre-eclampsia" and "if you can get to the hospital in less than 20mins, that'd be best". The rest was kind of a blur. DJ rushed us to the hospital, where they started Holly on some drugs and monitored the baby. Next thing we knew we were being transfered to Emanuel via ambulance because they could take better care of the premature baby if Holly did have to deliever. Within an hour or so of being there they decided an emergency C-section was necessary. By 5:51pm on April 29, 2009 Canon came out crying. He was 2 lbs 7 oz, and 30cm long.
DJ was able to go back with him right away and Holly was wheeled back to her room to recover. All of his grandparents, his Aunt Jennifer, and his Uncle Joe were waiting for the news in the waiting room. Immediately after birth, they hooked Canon up to the CPAP, a device that pushes air through his nose and into his lungs. The good news was that Canon was breathing room oxygen and didn't need any more pure oxygen. They also hooked him up to an IV and put him in a closed shell to regulate his temprature. Canon is now under light therapy to help lower his biliruben. As of today, May 4th, he weighs 2 lbs 2 oz. It's normal for a newborn to lose weight after birth and he won't gain anymore weight till he starts eating. Overall he's been stable and hasn't caused too much trouble for the excellent nursing crew at Emanual, except for last night when he was put next to the new female triplets. They were forced to move him this afternoon. Needless to say, DJ and Holly are both proud of their little man Canon.
